The Italian centerpiece features a likeness of St. Rita on one side and a beautiful rose on the other. St. Rita is an Italian saint who had a very turbulent life, but who never lost her faith in God. Even though her husband was violent, his family embroiled in a feud, and her sons died in their youth, Rita always put her trust in the Lord and desired to serve him with her life. After her husband and children died she was instrumental in bringing peace to the two feuding families. She was even able to enter the convent - a life-long dream. For these reasons St. Rita is called upon as a patron for those with causes that seem hopeless. She asked Our Lord to allow her to suffer for Him and he gave her a wound on her forehead - a thorn from His own crown of thorns. Her life may have been full of thorns, yet her faith was alive and flourishing like a rose. The beauty of her faith is reflected in the design of the St. Rita rosary.
